YAKUTSK, Russia – University of Michigan senior Logan Massa, who is representing the Cliff Keen Wrestling Club while taking an Olympic redshirt in 2019-20, won a bronze medal at 79 kg/174 pounds in freestyle wrestling at the Dmitry Korkin International on Sunday (Oct. 13).

Massa outscored his opposition, 21-0, today. He defeated Mirlan Chynybekov of Kyrgyzstan, 11-0, in his repechage match, before cruising past Russia’s Alexey Efimov of Russia, 10-0, in his bronze-medal match.

Massa dropped his opening match to eventual champion Tazhudin Akayev of Russia, 9-2. Akayev reached the gold-medal finals to pull Massa back into repechage.

The CKWC’s newest member, Youssif Hemida, a 2018 U23 World silver medalist, was defeated in his first match, losing to 2019 Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix bronze medalist Zelimkhan Khizriev of Russia, 8-4. Hemida was not pulled back into repechage.

The XII International Grand Prix Freestyle Wrestling Tournament in memory of the USSR Honored Coach Dmitry Korkin is held under the auspices of United World Wrestling (UWW), with Valery Tsylents of Belarus as the technical delegate.

The tournament features 156 wrestlers from 26 countries: Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Armenia, Bulgaria, Belarus, Hungary, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Canada, China, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Cuba, Mongolia, Macedonia, Moldova, USA, Poland, Romania, Turkey, Uzbekistan, the Philippines, South Korea, Japan and Russia.
