About Keynote Speaker: Jerry Hanlon, U-M Football Asst. Coach (1969-91)

Jerry Hanlon

Jerry Hanlon has been a member of the University of Michigan community since 1969 when he came to Michigan as an assistant coach under Bo Schembechler.

A native of North Bend, Ohio, Hanlon attended Miami University where he played halfback under Ara Parseghian. His coaching career began in the high school ranks, including a stint at Lakewood St. Edward, before he moved on to the University of Dayton and eventually joined forces with Bo at Miami.
During his years at Michigan, Hanlon established himself as one of the finest line coaches in the country. He was the team’s offensive line coach for 17 years and the quarterback coach for six years. He was credited with developing 19 All-American offensive linemen at Michigan, including Dan Dierdorf, Reggie McKenzie, Jumbo Elliott and Greg Skrepenak.
Hanlon retired from coaching in 1992 and was appointed as the Michigan’s assistant director of development and alumni relations. He also served as the color commentator on WJR’s radio broadcasts of U-M football games during the 1993, ’94 and ’95 seasons.
